Overview

"Twenty-five scholars from across the globe illustrate how in a world of shifting paradigms the Catholic ethicist is located in both time and space, and now in cyberspace. Whether you sample and select, or read from cover to cover, your appreciation of the vocation of the moral theologian can only increase."Ā --Peter Knox, SJ,Ā Jesuit School of Theology, Hekima University College, Kenya

"A collection of essays full of substance from renowned global ethicists that provides a theological and ethical compass to widen the horizons of its readers."Ā --Rev. Dr. Jordan Nyenyembe,Ā The Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Kenya

The latest volume in this prestigious series brings together twenty-five international scholars who reflect on the role of Catholic ethicists in the context of their particular, local churches, and in light of the ecclesiological shifts following Vatican II.

The first half of this work examines the connections between ecclesiology and moral theology. The second half is more practical, treating different themes surrounding concrete life in the local communities: the figure and the role of theological ethicists, their relationship with the community and the local authorities, their academic and ecclesial configuration, and more. Contributors also consider the emergence of local conflicts, as well as strategies for their solutions.

Antonio AutieroĀ is emeritus professor of moral theology at the University of MĆ¼nster (Germany) and a former director of the research center in religious and theological sciences at the Fondazione Bruno Kessler in Trent.

Laurenti Magesa, a Catholic priest in Tanzania, teaches theology at Hekima University College, the Jesuit School of Theology, Tangaza University College, and the Maryknoll Institute of African Studies in Nairobi, Kenya. He is the author of several books, includingĀ African ReligionĀ (1997) andĀ What Is Not Sacred?Ā (2013), both Orbis.
