Jean-Paul Wiest received his Ph.D. in Chinese History from the University of Washington. He is co-editor of The Catholic Church in Modern China (Orbis) and author of many scholarly articles on the history of missions in China and the Chinese church today. He is presently director of research at the Center for Mission Research and Study, Maryknoll, New York.
