"Superb . . . . If you only buy and read one book this year, make it this one."--Emmanuel

An informed, inspirational portrayal of the one who launched the path followed by billions over the course of two millennia.

In this much-needed book, Father Gerald OCollins brings together a lifetime of discipleship, prayer, and scholarship. The reader finds each of these attributes of a beloved theologian richly on display in twelve chapters with titles such as "God's Kingdom in Person," "Jesus the Healer," "The Story-Teller," "The Teacher," "Facing Death," and "The Abiding Presence." In a work filled with wisdom and insight, the reader gains new perspective on such perennial treasures as the Beatitudes and the Lords Prayer. O'Collins writes with a heart that knows the struggle of his contemporaries to find an anchor in a tumultuous world. And he knows that the call of Jesus is not to a life lived apart from that tumult. Instead, the portrait he draws is of one who gives us the courage to be in the world.

Gerald O’Collins, S.J., is an Australian Jesuit systematic theologian who serves as an adjunct professor at the Australian Catholic University. He holds a Ph.D. in theology from the University of Cambridge, an S.T.L. from Heythrop College, and M.A. and B.A. degrees in classics from the University of Melbourne. Father O’Collins has taught theology at the Gregorian University in Rome, the Jesuit Theological College (Melbourne), and Weston School of Theology (Boston). He is author of more than 60 books, including Christology: A Biblical, Historical, and Systematic Study of Jesus and Rethinking Fundamental Theology.
