Overview
Very few people in a generation manage to change the whole climate of a religious culture, but Brother Roger did just this. He changed the image of Christianity itself for countless young people; he changed the church's perception of the absolute priority of reconciliation. . . And he did this without any position of hierarchical authority. --Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury

Brother Roger Schutz (1915-2005) was the beloved founder of Taizé, an international center of worship and inter-Christian commitment in rural France. The influence of his monastic community has been immense; Taizé has become a popular place of pilgrimage for young people from all over the world who come there for worship and meditation. Brother Rogers spiritual beliefs and messages of peace, reconciliation and forgiveness have become all the more profound and relevant since his murder in 2005.

He was a prolific author, with his books and journals being translated into many languages and winning a number of prestigious international awards. This book reflects some of the best of his spiritual writings from 1941 until his death in 2005.

Marcello Fidanzio, who selected the text, is an Italian writer and a friend of the Taizé community.
